Wanda Carter was born and raised in a small suburb of Detroit, Michigan. There were no art classes in the schools at that time. She attended Wayne State University in Detroit. She majored in music for two years, then transferred to Early Childhood Education.  She began taking art workshops and classes in her twenties.  She is also a musician playing piano and alto sax and flute.

She plays in two swing bands in Port Charlotte, Florida; Swingin on Mondays BIG BAND at the Cultural Center, and Fred Capitelli's INGROOV BIG BAND.

She loves most to paint landscapes plein aire, right on site and to paint portraits of people and animals. She worked in pastels for years, but now is painting strictly in pastels and acrylics

Her work can be seen at Creations Gallery in the Village at Fisherman's Village, in Punta Gorda, Florida and at the Visual Art Center in Punta Gorda and various shows in the area.

Wanda taught at all of the local art centers in Port Charlotte, Englewood, and Northport, Florida in the last 15 years. She set up the live model group at the Visual Art Center in Punta Gorda 20 yrs ago.

Now, that she is back to playing her instruments, she is no longer teaching art, but enters local exhibits and participates in various venues about the area.

She is available for portrait commissions, so please call or email her.
